How it started: bare feet, red mud and one glove

Four months in, a patch of mud at Kibagare and a few borrowed gloves had become a team. Still going strong.

By Kibagare Angels

Kibagare Angels did not start on a diamond. It started on a patch of red earth in Kibagare, with children in their school uniforms standing in a circle, many of them barefoot, sharing a handful of gloves.

When it rained, the field turned to mud. Practice carried on anyway. Kids fielded ground balls in bare feet and lined up to take their turn at the plate.

Four months later we looked back at those first photos and wrote "How it started, and still going strong." The mud is still part of who we are. It is the reason we work so hard, and the reason every new pair of cleats, every glove and every trip to a real field means so much.
